GHB (Gamma hydroxybutyrate) is a central nervous system depressant, which means it slows down the body’s central nervous system. It is also often called ‘fantasy’, ‘liquid ecstasy’ or ‘liquid x’. It comes as a colourless, odourless, bitter or salty-tasting liquid. GHB can cause drowsiness, sleep and short term memory loss. It carries a high risk of overdose due to the small amount of difference in the amount required to get a ‘high’ and the amount that can cause overdose. As with other drugs, it is difficult to know the strength of GHB. There is also evidence to suggest GHB is highly addictive. Factsheets |
