What is ice?

A particular concern with Ice, as a potent form of methamphetamine, is that users are more likely to develop a dependency on the drug, particularly if it is smoked or injected, because of the almost instant onset of the drug effect (‘rush’) resulting from these methods of use.

A person with a dependence on a drug often requires more and more of the drug to get the same effect (also known as ‘tolerance’).

It also means that without the drug, severe withdrawal can be experienced.

Although some people regard smoking ice as a less dangerous way to consume it (for example, compared to swallowing it), smoking ice is actually associated with a much higher likelihood of becoming addicted and experiencing other problems such as psychosis and aggressive behaviour.
