The effects of many drugs are unpredictable and there is no real way to tell what they are made of unless you have the drug analysed by a chemist. Most illegal drugs are synthetic and man-made, often mixed with a range of other substances that can cause harm.
If you use drugs -
- Do not use drugs alone
- Remember that drugs affect the way you think and feel
- Pay attention to what you’re experiencing and if you don’t feel well – tell someone
- Rest and re-hydrate
- Try not to drink alcohol or limit your alcohol intake
- In social situations, don’t leave your drink unattended
- Make sure you have enough money to get home
Be aware of the warning signs of becoming dependent on a drug –
- Is the drug becoming the most important thing in your life?
- Are you having problems at work, study, in relationships or with money?
- Are you having difficulty sleeping, eating or doing other things that are a normal part of your day?
- Are you experiencing any psychological or emotional problems such as feeling anxious, depressed, moody or irritable?
- Are you continuing to use a drug even though it’s not enjoyable any more?
- Are you using more of the drug over a period of time?
- Are you trying to stop using a drug but are having trouble cutting down or stopping?
